Nike VaporMax: Fashion to Fitness

I am not sure if this is completely normal, but the sunny weather is truly slow to roll in here in NYC. There have only been just a few days of sunshine sprinkled here and there, but for the most part if feels like the weather has been gloomy and rainy. We didn’t really get a Spring this season, so hoping that the Summer really sets in strong. At the least, I have been fortunate enough to have a few days where I have been able to rock my favorite look – shorts, and tank and some tennis shoes.

There will be plenty of talk on the various outfits with shorts that I plan on rocking this Summer, but I wanted to take some time to focus on the newest additions to my shoe collection – an awesome pair of Nike VaporMax running shoes. I have been procrastinating on getting a solid pair of tennis shoes for some reason. In addition to a pair of black and/or brown boots, I always usually have a pair of sneakers to cover off on my casual styles. It’s probably because I got wrapped up in focusing on the fancy fashion of New York and was trying to flex my flashy looks on IG.

They cost me way more than I hoped, but I am so glad to have a lightweight and rather unique pair of sneaks to rock this season. While they are technically running shoes, I fully intend to use them more so for fashion versus fitness. But let me talk a little more about that here so you see what I’m working with.

The Fitness of Fashion

So, let’s start with fashion – as you can see, these Nikes are a perfect asset for any casual, fun and free Summer fit. Whether you’re rolling around in shorts and a tank like me – or strolling through the city in some jeans and t-shirt, I highly recommend walking on air with these VaporMax kicks. They are practically weightless with the thin and porous material of the shoes. As you can see, I felt absolutely inspired to jump to new heights with these things on –it’s like there is no gravity holding me down when I’m wearing these. Ok, that’s dramatic, but you get the feeling.

Bananas Over These Shorts

The shoes are amazing – got it, check. Now want to talk a little about these pink swim shorts that I got from H&M. I mean, they aren’t exactly anything that special to write home about, but I did want to highlight how perfect they are for this kind of outfit that I put together. All black except for a pop of pink - that is precisely how I love to incorporate pink into my outfits. I also usually just get black swim shorts and call it a day; shocker. And that’s even more reason why I was drawn to these shorts and am excited to wear them to the beach this summer – they’re pink and poppin. Goals accomplished.

Fashion of Fitness

Alright – that covers the fashion end of things. Now let’s get into fitness. Obviously when you’re working out, what you’re working out in is not as significant, unless you like to stay super coordinated in the gym. I usually settle for an all-black gym look that doesn’t make it look like I just threw anything on. But there are even times when I do just throw something on and don’t really care – I’ll be sweating my butt off anyway. In this case I settle for going shirtless – I don’t usually do that but I gotta flex for the blog.

Fitness Fundamentals

I plan to eventually dedicate a whole blog to some of my fitness routines, but I did just want to quickly talk about some basics here. When it comes to fitness, looking good predominantly results from a healthy and well-balanced diet, even more so from working out. But following that, the next most key factor in looking good is weight training. I think people get intimidated by heavy things and immediately dread the effort that goes into building strength. To be honest – it’s not that crazy of an activity, and you don’t even have to lift an outrageous amount of weight. Sometimes doing a few simple sets of couple different exercises can be enough to keep yourself toned and together. Whether machines, benchwork or free weights, there is so much variety in what you can do – I challenge to explore all your options.

Running Free

But back to the shoes – these were an absolute dream to do some cardio in. Like I mentioned when discussing my casual look, your feet feel so free when moving in these kicks. That especially comes to life when you’re running – it’s like you’re effortlessly bouncing with each stride you take. That is largely due to the bubble-like figures at the bottom of the shoes – I imagine that they absorb a lot of the pressure each time you take a step, which in turn puts less pressure on your legs and knees. Which points to a teachable moment regarding cardio – it is not as valuable as weight training. Running specifically can put a lot of stress on the body, and the dramatic exhaustion of calories seems to thrust people into an incontrollable hunger hours later, leading to people completely contradicting all that hard work by binging on crap. Not saying that everyone or is always guaranteed to happen, but unless you have a solid handle on your diet, I recommend sticking to weight training and easing into a consistent fitness routine gradually.

Verdict: Pick Up a Pair

Whew, what a dialogue. We talked fashion, we talked fitness, but most importantly, we talked about these super dope Nikes that I am happily obsessed with.  If you're in the market for an incredible pair of new running shoes and aren't afraid of dropping a couple hundred dollars, these are a no-brainer top choice. I've always been a fan of Nike quality and design, so it was an easy enough choice for me to make. But of course, if there are any other brands you recommend, that offer a similar prodict and value as the VaporMax, I would love to know. These bad boys won't last forever afterall.
