Suiting Up Pt. III: Mr. Pink

Even though it shouldn't be all that surprising, I am still amazed at how much people love men in suits. Between personal feedback and the engagement that I get on social networks, it is becoming increasingly clear to me why so many male influencers lean into suits for extra appeal. Class speaks for itself, and it's a universal concept that humans respond to. My inner psychologist is curious as to what intrinsic components of our being drives such a positive response to suits or more sophisticated attire, but I think the most practical explanation would be that it's simply a cultural thing.

Anyway, as I am sure you've gathered by now, I am most thrilled to present yet another suit that I got at the beginning of the season. Given how pleased I was with the previous two suits that I got from Topman, I of course made another visit to see what new selections they had laid out for the Summer. I was absolutely smitten with the variety of new options they had in stock - from the colors, to the fits, to the materials. There were several light and pastel colors, including a few different types of pink suits which I immediately gravitated toward. At first I wasn't sure I was able to find the right size, since I tend to mix and match between the jacket and the pants. But fortunately, after doing some fitting and trial and error, I landed on this perfect fit. I can't wait to get into the details.

Too Fitted To Quit It

So first thing's first - let's talk about the material. This suit is technically a "spray on" fit, which means it's meant to literally be as fitted as it gets. But you know I love a skin tight fit, and while it may seem like that would be incredibly stuffy and uncomfortable, it's actually quite the contrary. Like I alluded to before, this season's collection included lighter weight materials, which are breathable and don't bunch/pinch in the wrong areas. The suit is super soft, and incredibly comfortable. In addition to being breathable, it's also easy to move in and doesn't even feel like I'm wearing a suit at all. Aside from polyester, this suit material also includes viscose, which from my research is another form of rayon. This fabric is a mix between natural and synthetic, and is considered to be silk-like. That's obviously a distinguishing element compared to other suits, which is what makes this particular ensemble perfect for the Summer and little more premium.

Coordination Is Key

Now getting into my favorite part about this look - let's talk about the styling. Drawing from how I styled my gray suit back in 2017, I didn't necessarily want to go the route of a button-down, tie/bowtie and dress shoes. To truly highlight the seasonality of this suit, I wanted to give it a slightly more casual twist by wearing a modest white tee under the jacket. Building on that and helping keep the outfit bright and refreshing, I wanted to carry the white through the rest of the look and decided to accessorize with a white-strapped watch and some humble white summer flats that I got from H&M. And with my chest on display, I couldn't just let the white v-neck do all of the talking, so to accentuate the class, I adorned my neck with a few thin gold chains.

Three-Dimensional Style

Obviously, the pink color of the suit pops and carries all of the weight in style for this look. Awesome, glad we're on the same page. But from there we see that having the white gives structure to the look from the chest to the wrist to the feet - which is key because you have to ground such an expressive look with some sort of neutral, especially one that has synergy with a bright color like pink. But what really takes it to a third dimension is the gold. Not only do the different lengths of the gold chains help convey dimension, but they're coordination with the gold/orange color of the watch is the ideal finishing touch. Magnifique

True Style Should Come Naturally

Nothing feels better than when an outfit comes together organically. While I had the vision for this look, as I was shopping and tapping into my jewelry collection, everything aligned so smoothly and that's how you know you've landed on the perfect look. With the Summer still being so young, I sincerely hope that there is an occasion for me to bring this outfit back out of the closet and rock at one of the new rooftop bars that opened this season. But at the least, I am hoping that I can find an opportunity to somehow replicate this styling for a Client meeting, dinner date or birthday party.

I honestly think that I take for granted how easy it can be to put things together like this. I guess if I had one major tip for you to takeaway from this, it's really just to think outside of the box.

  • Don't be afraid to pick a suit in a different color that you would usually get.
  • Classy can be simple, and sometimes all you need is a tee under a suit jacket.
  • Just because your suit is expensive, doesn't mean your accessories have to be.

Assuming I can get my budget right, I really want to keep the momentum going with these suits. I love them, my friends and family love them, and my followers love them. But most importantly, my wardrobe loves them, and before I know it I'll have a fabulous collection to turn to for any occasion. Now if only Topman would hurry up and sponsor me.
